English-Sierra Leonean Trevor Chalobah calls for Chelsea self-reflection after costly Arsenal defeat
Trevoh Chalobah has urged his Chelsea teammates to confront their shortcomings following another damaging Premier League setback, insisting the squad must accept responsibility rather than search for excuses after Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal F.C..
Chelsea fell 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium in a match decided largely by familiar weaknesses. Arsenal punished the visitors twice from corner situations, exposing defensive frailties that have increasingly defined Chelsea’s inconsistent campaign.

Matters worsened when winger Pedro Neto was dismissed, leaving the Blues with an uphill task during the closing stages.
Reflecting on the performance, Chalobah admitted the responsibility lies squarely within the dressing room.
“We have to look at ourselves because we’ve been undone from two set-plays,” he said after the final whistle, highlighting recurring lapses despite extensive preparation on dead-ball situations.
Chelsea’s struggles defending set-pieces have become a recurring theme this season, undermining otherwise competitive displays. Chalobah acknowledged that Arsenal’s aerial strength was well known beforehand, making the concession of two similar goals particularly frustrating.
“We work a lot on set-pieces, both defensively and offensively, and we know how strong Arsenal are at them. These are the little details and we need to improve on them,” he added.
The defender stressed that improvement must come through greater accountability across the squad, both tactically and mentally.
“We have to know our roles both collectively and individually, and we all need to step up. We’ve conceded too many goals from set-pieces, that’s why we are where we are in the table.”
Attention now quickly shifts to a demanding midweek encounter against Aston Villa F.C., a fixture Chalobah believes could define Chelsea’s trajectory during a pivotal stretch of the season. With a challenging run of matches approaching, he emphasised the urgency of translating performances into results.
“We have to look at ourselves and really step up now, because we’re heading into a crucial part of the season,” Chalobah said. “It’s time for everyone to keep positive, turn the performances into the three points and push up the table.”
