Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has called for reflection and learning after their Carabao Cup semifinal heartbreak at Arsenal on Tuesday night.
The Blues fell 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium, with Kai Havertz’s injury-time strike sealing a 4-2 aggregate win for the Gunners and sending them through to the final.
“It’s disappointing not to get to the final,” Chalobah said after the match. “It was a chance for us to reach another final and compete for another trophy, but it came down to the final details in the attacking third. We did really well to nullify them, especially in the first half, but it just didn’t click when it mattered most.”
The Chelsea defender stressed that, despite the late loss, the team largely executed their game plan and limited Arsenal’s opportunities.
“Arsenal didn’t create many chances in that final part of the game; they didn’t really hurt us. We stuck to the plan, and we were pushing at the end, but it just didn’t work out. We have to keep our heads up and not let this affect us, and carry on our good form.”
Chalobah also highlighted the team’s attacking shortcomings as an area for improvement.
“It’s the final details – finishing our attacks, getting more shots off – that we need to work on. Breaking down a side like Arsenal and their defence is never easy, and this is something we can learn from. We need to focus on these small margins and move forward.”
Despite the disappointment, the Chelsea defender urged optimism and resilience, emphasizing the importance of learning from setbacks while maintaining confidence in the squad’s progress.
