Trevoh Chalobah says Chelsea are relishing the opportunity to face Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday, describing the clash as an exciting challenge for the squad.
The Blues will take on the European champions just days after PSG’s emphatic 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid in the semi-final.
Chalobah, who is of Sierra Leonean descent and has represented England at international level, has become a mainstay in Chelsea’s defensive unit.
“We’re over the moon,” Chalobah said of reaching the final. “It’s been one of our goals since the first game of the tournament and it’s nice to get into the final.
“All we can manage is what happens on the pitch and the boys have done that well throughout this tournament. Now we have one more step.”
The 26-year-old was quick to downplay any suggestions that Chelsea would enter the final with fear, despite the manner of PSG’s semi-final performance.
“We will prepare the same way we have been preparing for every game,” he said. “Nothing changes, no matter the opponent we play.
“We will prepare the same. It will be exciting to play one of the best teams in the world, and we will be ready.”
Chalobah also reserved praise for new teammates Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, who joined the team this summer.
“They have both fitted in well. They have both come into the team and played like they’ve been here for years,” he said. “It’s good to have that type of quality and add it to a strong group. We’re really happy for them.”
Chelsea are now one match away from global honours.
