English-Nigerian sensation Ethan Nwaneri set for new Arsenal deal as he targets bigger role

Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement on a new contract with rising star Ethan Nwaneri, as the club looks to tie down one of its most promising young talents.

The 18-year-old, who impressed during the 2024/25 season, is reportedly eager to extend his stay at the Emirates and take on a more prominent role in the first team.

Nwaneri, of Nigerian descent, is considered one of the most gifted players to emerge from Arsenal’s academy in recent years.

His dual heritage has also sparked interest among international scouts, but his current focus remains firmly on club football.

According to The Athletic, discussions over a long-term deal are at an advanced stage.

Nwaneri, who deputized effectively on the right flank during Bukayo Saka’s injury spells, is now being groomed for a more central position.

Manager Mikel Arteta sees him as a natural understudy to Martin Ødegaard and a key figure in the squad’s future midfield structure.

The teenager registered nine goals and two assists last season, showcasing composure and maturity well beyond his years.

He first made headlines in 2022, becoming the youngest player ever to feature in a Premier League match at 15 years and 181 days during a clash with Brentford.

With Arsenal aiming to deepen their squad for a competitive 2025/26 campaign across multiple fronts, Nwaneri’s development is viewed as integral to their strategic planning.

Arteta has previously lauded the youngster’s work ethic and tactical understanding, reinforcing the belief that the club is preparing to hand him greater responsibility.

Final confirmation of the new deal is expected soon, with Arsenal fans hopeful Nwaneri will become a central figure in the team’s next era of success.
