English-Nigerian Noni Madueke thanks Chelsea fans for ‘criticism’ after confirmed Arsenal transfer
Noni Madueke has penned a heartfelt farewell message to Chelsea supporters after finalising his transfer to Arsenal, expressing gratitude for both praise and criticism received during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Born in England to Nigerian parents, the 23-year-old winger holds strong ties to his Nigerian heritage and has previously acknowledged the pride he takes in his African roots.
Madueke becomes Arsenal’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Christian Norgaard.
The Gunners are understood to have agreed a deal with Chelsea worth just over £50 million, with £48.5 million as the initial fee and the rest in add-ons.
He joins Mikel Arteta’s side after registering 11 goals and five assists in the 2024/25 campaign.
Though the transfer has drawn mixed reactions among Arsenal supporters—triggering the #NoToMadueke trend and a petition against the move—the former Chelsea star remained gracious.
In a statement posted on Instagram, he thanked the Blues’ fanbase and staff, and paid tribute to manager Enzo Maresca.
“To Enzo Maresca, it was a privilege to play under you, thank you for trying to better me as a player and as a person,” Madueke wrote.
He continued, “Lastly thank you to every single Chelsea fan. Thank you for the love, the praise and also the criticism, I appreciate it all. I leave here with nothing but fond memories.”
Madueke is expected to join his new Arsenal teammates in the coming days as preparations continue for the club’s pre-season fixtures.
