Fikayo Tomori says wearing the AC Milan shirt brings a unique sense of pride and responsibility, admitting the club’s history sharpens his motivation every day.
The English defender, who has Nigerian heritage, has re-established himself as a central figure at San Siro this season.
After months of uncertainty surrounding his future, Tomori chose continuity over change, resisting interest from Juventus and Tottenham to refocus his career in Milan.
That decision is paying dividends. The 28-year-old has become a defensive pillar in Massimiliano Allegri’s back three, operating consistently on the right side.
His performances have been marked by composure, recovery pace, and leadership, restoring confidence among supporters and within the club’s hierarchy.
Tomori’s resurgence follows a period when his place appeared uncertain. Questions lingered during both the winter and summer transfer windows, with speculation suggesting a departure was possible.
Instead, the centre-back committed to improving his form and influence, a resolve that has helped Milan stabilise defensively during a demanding campaign.
Speaking to the BBC, Tomori reflected on the unique environment at Milan and the expectations that come with it.
“It’s mad. You walk in every day and you see pictures of players like Maldini, (Franco) Baresi, Kaka, Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) and (Alessandro) Nesta.
“So you definitely feel the expectation knowing those players were in the same building.
“And it comes from the fans you meet in the city. You realise how much weight the shirt holds.
“I love that they’re so proud of the club and there’s an expectation for us to deliver and do what those before did.”
Beyond club matters, Tomori has also cast an eye toward international ambitions, with the World Cup approaching next year. Consistent performances at Milan have renewed discussion about his prospects at national level, alongside talk of a potential contract extension with the Rossoneri.
