English-Nigerian Dele Alli trains at Tottenham to rebuild fitness
Former Dele Alli is using the facilities of Tottenham Hotspur to regain match fitness as he prepares to decide his next move in football.
The 29-year-old midfielder, currently a free agent, has been granted permission to train on the academy pitches at the club’s Hotspur Way complex in Hertfordshire.
The arrangement is intended to help Alli maintain conditioning and rebuild stamina while he weighs up his options ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Alli has been without a club since parting ways with Italian side Como 1907 in September, bringing a short six-month spell in Serie A to an end. His time in Italy came under head coach Cesc Fàbregas and followed difficult periods with Everton F.C. and Turkish outfit Beşiktaş J.K..
Those recent years have represented a challenging chapter for the former England national football team international, who is now working towards a return to competitive football.
Training in a familiar environment offers the midfielder an opportunity to rebuild confidence and sharpness. Alli enjoyed the most successful stretch of his career during his seven seasons with Tottenham, where he scored 69 goals in 269 appearances and became a central figure in the club’s rise under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The strong connection between Alli and the club’s supporters remains evident. He was invited as a special guest for the north London derby against Arsenal F.C. last month and addressed fans at half-time, reflecting on his desire to return to the pitch.
“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch playing, hopefully it won’t be too long now.
“I hope you’ve missed me as much as I’ve missed you. A lot has happened in our journeys since we were last together, but I’m back today, and I hope you know that you’ll always be my family.”
Alli later shared a video on Instagram showing him training at Tottenham’s facilities, prompting discussion among fans about a possible comeback.
