England midfielder of Ghanaian descent, Kobbie Mainoo, is set to stay at Manchester United for at least another season.
According to reports, the youngster will remain at Old Trafford, especially if club captain Bruno Fernandes decides to accept a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League.
Mainoo has been the subject of strong interest from Chelsea, who have been closely monitoring his situation. The Blues initially targeted the 20-year-old during the January transfer window and have revived their interest ahead of the new season, even with the incoming signing of Dario Essugo from Sporting CP and Andrey Santos returning from a successful loan stint at Strasbourg.
However, according to sources, Chelsea are unlikely to land the Manchester United prospect. The club’s leadership, now under INEOS, is aware that parting ways with both Fernandes and Mainoo could spark significant backlash from fans.
Meanwhile, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly “not completely convinced” by Mainoo, dampening suggestions of a potential move to Portugal.
The future of Mainoo will be known for certain before the end of June.
