Ghanaian FA pursues Kobbie Mainoo amidst rising international interest

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly considering pushing for a loan move in January amid growing frustration over limited first-team opportunities.

Mainoo, who is English with Ghanaian heritage, has struggled to secure consistent playing time this season, with sources close to the club suggesting he may seek a temporary transfer.

United want Mainoo to continue working hard and take advantage of any opportunities to prove he deserves a regular place, but the youngster feels the season is slipping away.

Club officials have expressed caution over loan deals, citing limited long-term value.

However, Mainoo’s increasing impatience could force the club to reconsider that stance in the January window.

The club is also evaluating forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is attracting interest from Roma.

The Italian side is exploring a loan move with an option to buy, which could influence United’s decision.

United may also explore adding midfield reinforcements, with Conor Gallagher a potential target. A forward with top-level experience could be considered if Zirkzee departs, as the club seeks balance in the squad.

Chelsea has reportedly renewed interest in Mainoo. The Premier League side previously pursued Alejandro Garnacho in a swap deal with United, and they are now assessing cover for injury-prone Romeo Lavia.

Napoli has also shown interest in Mainoo, although United remain focused on their long-term midfield succession plan. The club aims to find replacements for Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, rather than relying solely on youth prospects.

Reports suggest that targets such as Carlos Baleba remain challenging due to valuation, while Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton continue to be viable Premier League options.
