English-English defender Fikayo Tomori injury mars AC Milan’s win over Napoli

AC Milan’s 2-1 victory over Napoli on Sunday night was dampened by an untimely injury to Nigerian-English defender Fikayo Tomori, who was forced off late in the second half.

The 27-year-old collapsed to the ground clutching his leg in the 80th minute, prompting immediate concern from teammates and staff.

Tomori, who was born in Canada to Nigerian parents but represents England internationally, has been a cornerstone of Milan’s defence.

His sudden exit left a noticeable void at the back, with coach Massimiliano Allegri turning to Belgian youngster Koni De Winter to see out the closing stages at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Reports from Italy suggest Tomori suffered a muscle problem, though the full extent of the damage will only be known after further medical examinations.

Club doctors are expected to run scans early this week to determine the seriousness of the injury and estimate his recovery time.

Milan entered the fixture riding high on three consecutive wins and clean sheets, signalling a return to form after early-season stumbles.

Sunday’s victory, secured by goals from Saelemaekers and Pulisic, was another step as they went top of the Serie A table.

However, Tomori’s potential absence looms large ahead of a pivotal clash with Juventus next weekend.

With key fixtures on the horizon, Milan supporters and management alike will be hoping the initial fears over the defender’s condition prove unfounded.
