Emmanuel Longelo celebrating strong debut season at Motherwell

Motherwell defender Emmanuel Longelo has been named “Player of the Month” for April by supporters, marking his first individual accolade since joining the Scottish Premiership club at the start of the season.

The award comes after an impressive debut campaign in Scotland for the 23-year-old, who has quickly established himself as one of the standout performers in the squad.

Operating as an attacking full-back, Longelo has delivered strong numbers throughout the season, contributing both defensively and in the final third.

It has been a notable turnaround for the Congolese defender, who is enjoying the most productive spell of his professional career since moving to Motherwell.

His form has been particularly striking given his previous struggles to secure regular game time at Birmingham City, where he failed to cement a place in the first team. A loan spell at Cambridge United also did not provide the breakthrough he had hoped for.

Since arriving in Scotland, however, Longelo has found stability and consistency, earning the trust of the coaching staff and becoming a key part of the team’s setup.

“I thought I was joining a good team, a good club with good moral values, great people,” he said.

His performances have reflected that comfort and confidence on the pitch. This season, the West Ham academy graduate has made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. He has accumulated 3,118 minutes of playing time, highlighting his importance to the squad.

Longelo’s contract runs for two seasons with an option for a third, and his impact in his debut year has already made him one of Motherwell’s most consistent performers.

The award from supporters underlines his growing influence at the club, with his attacking contributions from defence proving a valuable asset throughout the campaign.
