Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Keyekeh has officially changed his nationality from Ghana to Tanzania, making him eligible to play for the Taifa Stars in international competitions.
The Singida Black Stars player has completed all necessary procedures, clearing the way for him to feature in upcoming tournaments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
A new international opportunity
Despite showcasing his talent in Ghana’s top flight, Keyekeh never received a call-up to the Black Stars.
The midfielder previously played for Unistar Academy, Karela United, and Samartex before moving to Asante Kotoko, where he gained recognition for his performances.
However, with no opportunities to represent Ghana at the senior level, the 26-year-old has opted to pursue an international career with Tanzania.
His decision marks a significant step in his career, offering him the chance to compete on the continental stage and contribute to Tanzania’s football ambitions.
The Taifa Stars, who have been striving to establish themselves as regular contenders in AFCON and World Cup qualification, will benefit from his experience and midfield presence.
A growing trend in African football
Keyekeh’s nationality switch follows a growing trend of footballers opting to represent nations where they find opportunities to make an impact.
Several African players have taken similar paths in recent years, seeking competitive international football outside their countries of birth.
With his transition now complete, Keyekeh will be looking forward to earning his first cap for Tanzania and proving his worth on the international stage.
As the Taifa Stars prepare for their upcoming fixtures, his inclusion could provide a boost to the squad’s midfield options.
For Keyekeh, this move represents a fresh chapter in his career—one that could see him fulfill his dream of playing at the highest level of African and global football.
