Emmanuel Frimpong’s stint at Barnsley has come to an end after just four months, with the club’s relegation to the lower division being cited as the reason. The Ghanaian midfielder, who arrived at Barnsley with hopes of helping them avoid relegation, was unable to prevent the club from dropping into League One. Consequently, he, along with 14 other players, has been asked to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Frimpong, once considered a promising talent during his time at Arsenal, struggled to establish himself, making only 9 appearances for the Gunners since 2011. His spell at Barnsley saw him receive 4 yellow cards in 8 matches after being excluded 30 minutes into his debut. Despite his club struggles, Frimpong is still aiming for a spot in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Having previously been on loan at Charlton, Wolverhampton, and Fulham, Frimpong, now a free agent following the end of his contract with Arsenal, is expected to seek a new club during the summer transfer window.
