Following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas from Tottenham last week, one of the reasons cited for the split was the reluctance to play Emmanuel Adebayor. With AVB’s exit, Adebayor made an immediate impact, scoring a goal in the English League Cup last Thursday.
In a fresh start under new management, the Togolese striker delivered a spectacular double just three days later, leading Tottenham to a comeback victory against Southampton (2-3). This victory propelled Spurs back to 7th place in the Premier League. Despite initially trailing from the 17th minute due to a goal from Adam Lallana, Adebayor played a decisive role.
On a pass from Roberto Soldado, Adebayor equalized before halftime. After the break, Danny Rose’s effort forced a Southampton defender to score an own goal. Although the Tottenham defense faced challenges against Ricky Lambert, Adebayor demonstrated his top form, seizing an opportunity in the defensive area to score with his left foot.
The final score was 2-3 in favor of Tottenham.
