Al Ahly have been dealt a tough blow ahead of their high-stakes Club World Cup clash with Brazilian side Palmeiras, as midfielder Emam Ashour is ruled out for up to two months through injury.

The absence of the dynamic playmaker, who played a key role in the win over Inter Miami, is a major setback just as the competition heats up.

Imad Al-Nahhas, Al Ahly’s general coach, admitted that facing Palmeiras on Thursday night in the second round will be no easy task, highlighting the Brazilian side’s pace and physical strength.

“Palmeiras is very different from Inter Miami and the confrontation will be difficult, but no opponent has no mistakes,” he said.

On who might step up in Ashour’s place, Al-Nahhas pointed to newcomer Ahmed Mostafa Zizo. The technical team, led by Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, trusts Zizo’s talent and readiness.

“Zizo played 65 minutes against Inter Miami and the issue of his participation and replacement is up to the technical staff,” he added.

Al Ahly now look to adjust quickly, hoping for a sharp showing on both ends against a fearsome Palmeiras side.
