Al Ahly winger Hussein El Shahat ended a prolonged goal drought in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday, scoring in his side’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Haras El Hodoud at Cairo International Stadium.
The win came during the fourth round of the league’s Championship playoff phase, helping the Red Devils maintain momentum in their pursuit of another domestic crown.
The 32-year-old, who had not scored in the league since February 16 against Ismaily, came off the bench at the start of the second half and netted his side’s fourth goal in the 73rd minute.
His well-taken finish brought relief and celebration, ending months of frustration and marking his fourth league goal of the current campaign.
In addition to his goals, El Shahat has also contributed three assists this season, underlining his importance to Ahly despite periods of inconsistency.
The game also saw the return of Tunisian left-back Ali Maâloul, who featured in the Egyptian Premier League for the first time this season.
Maâloul replaced Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki during the match, adding both defensive stability and attacking threat down the left flank.
Al Ahly’s dominant performance kept Haras El Hodoud under pressure throughout, as the Cairo giants capitalised on their superior squad depth and fluid attacking play.
The result reaffirmed their strength during the title run-in and underlined their status as favourites to reclaim the league title.
