El Gouna kept their home crowd on edge but found relief at the very last breath as they came away with a 1-1 draw against Zed at the Khaled Bichara Stadium in the Red Sea Governorate on Saturday in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The game looked set to slip away from the hosts after Zed struck late. Substitute Abdelrahman El Banoubi broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, latching onto a fine pass from Mahmoud Saber before calmly slotting home. The away supporters roared, sensing a vital victory was within reach.
But football often saves its wildest moments for the end. In stoppage time, El Gouna kept pressing forward in desperation. Their persistence paid off when Zed defender Ali Gamal, under pressure, attempted to clear the ball but disastrously turned it into his own net. The home fans erupted, celebrating what felt more like a rescue than a draw.
With the point, both teams now sit level on six points, Zed in seventh and El Gouna in ninth.
