Eintracht Frankfurt claimed their first Bundesliga home victory in six months by beating FC Koln 1-0, with Younes Ebnoutalib scoring the decisive goal 13 minutes from time.
The result ended Frankfurt’s six-match winless run at Deutsche Bank Park and provided a response to their 6-0 defeat by RB Leipzig. It also extended Koln’s poor away form, with the club now without a win in their past 16 Bundesliga matches on the road, drawing six and losing 10.
After an open start, Ebnoutalib finished clinically in the 77th minute following an excellent exchange with substitute Noel Aseko-Nkili. The striker’s precise right-footed effort beat Marvin Schwabe at his near post.
Frankfurt began with intent, although Koln also carried an early threat. Noah Atubolu denied Marius Bulter, while the hosts went on to create further opportunities through Ebnoutalib and Fares Chaibi.
Schwabe was repeatedly called upon as Frankfurt pressed for an opening. He made several important saves to keep the visitors in the contest, while Atubolu also demonstrated his quality by keeping out Bulter’s first-time attempt from a Borna Sosa free-kick.
Koln continued to look dangerous at times. Said El Mala made ground with a determined run but could not finish the move, sending his effort wide.
Frankfurt increased the pressure following the interval, with Ritsu Doan offering a consistent outlet in attack. Schwabe denied Lilian Brassier’s header before producing another save to prevent Chaibi from scoring at close range.
Brassier then headed wide from a Chaibi corner as Frankfurt’s frustration mounted. The breakthrough eventually arrived when Aseko-Nkili combined with Ebnoutalib, allowing the striker to find the net with a composed finish.
The victory moved Frankfurt back into the top half of the Bundesliga and gave their supporters a long-awaited home success.
Frankfurt coach Adi Hutter said his side deserved the points, particularly because of their display after half-time.
“Based on the second half, the victory is deserved,” said Hutter. “The team showed a reaction and a different side after the 0-6 thrashing.”
He also stressed the significance of ending the club’s wait for a home win.
“The 1-0 win is not only very important in this context, but also because it was our first home win in six months,” he said.
Hutter praised the collective work-rate of his players and highlighted captain Robin Koch, whom he had supported after his difficult performance against Leipzig.
“Keeping a clean sheet is very important,” he added. “I saw a team that ran together, supported each other, pushed each other, and fought. That’s the most important thing.”
