Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have dropped eight players from their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
The expanded 32-team tournament scheduled to take place at the USA runs from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with Wydad Casablanca set to battle it out for the prestigious trophy.
Wydad Casablanca face a formidable path in Group G with fixtures against Manchester City, Al Ain, and Juventus.
The Moroccan giants is not just aiming for a deep run, but for continental pride and a shot at becoming the first African team to lift the new-format Club World Cup trophy.
As the team depart for the tournament in the USA, head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has opted to trim down his squad, dropping right players from the team.
Players, who have been left out of the squad include, Walid Nassi, Hamza Sakhi, Mohammed El Jadidi, Monir El Habach, Ayman Dairani, Saifeddine Bouhra, Zakaria Nassik, Yassine Bennani.
While the official reason given is technical, the decision reflects Benhachem’s desire to build a streamlined and competitive team as Wydad face world-class opposition in Group G.
