Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports and the President of the African University Sports Federation, participated in the Executive Bureau meetings of the International University Sports Federation in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The event was also attended by Swiss official Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation, Dr. Hassan Mustafa, President of the International Handball Federation, and a host of international members alongside various local and regional federations.
Discussions during the Executive Bureau meetings of the International University Sports Federation covered a wide array of topics, including the review of the federation’s annual agenda, upcoming work plans, financial matters, and strategies to enhance university sports across all continental federations.
The meetings also focused on developing mechanisms to advance the federation’s work in the future and exploring ways to strengthen and increase the resources of continental federations.
Moreover, the meetings addressed and reviewed upcoming events in university sports, spanning both summer and winter university sports games, as well as other significant sporting events associated with university sports.
Minister Ashraf Sobhi emphasized the future vision for positioning the African University Sports Federation in a prominent place, underscoring the necessity to begin supporting the African Union and all continental federations while developing their resources.
He highlighted Africa’s potential to excel and called for concerted efforts with the International Federation.
Furthermore, the Minister stressed the importance of enhancing university sports worldwide, providing a conducive environment for youth participation in sports and cultural activities.
He emphasized aligning the goals of continental federations with those of the International Federation, fostering collaboration among universities globally.
Minister Sobhi also highlighted the Egyptian government’s keen interest in sports activities within universities, affirming that political leadership spares no effort in providing support to various Egyptian sports federations, particularly university sports, to execute their programs and plans in cooperation with international federations.
He reiterated Egypt’s endeavor to build scientific and sports ties with African and international universities.
