Top Egyptian referee Mahmoud Ashour is set to travel to the United States of America (USA) as part of the match officials for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The expanded tournament will be held for the first time under its new format, featuring 32.
Ashour has been appointed as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the highly anticipated tournament, following official confirmation from FIFA and the Egyptian Football Association. His selection comes as part of the FIFA Referees Committee’s list for the expanded competition.
The 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup will be the first held under a new 32-team format and is scheduled to run from June 14 to July 13 across cities in the United States.
The tournament will feature five Arab clubs: Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), and Al Ain (UAE).
Widely respected in international officiating circles, Mahmoud Ashour has previously officiated at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is also a strong candidate for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
