Egyptian Olympic Committee dismisses Al Ahly’s appeal over League sanctions
The Egyptian Olympic Committee has rejected Al Ahly’s appeal against the sanctions imposed by the Egyptian Professional Football League following the club’s no-show in the Cairo derby against Zamalek.
Al Ahly had refused to take part in the crucial play-off match on the opening day of the Egyptian Premier League’s final phase, insisting on the appointment of foreign referees.
Their absence led to the league awarding Zamalek a 3-0 victory by default, while Al Ahly were also penalized with a three-point deduction in the overall standings.
League Standings After the Decision
With the ruling upheld, the latest league standings among the top four clubs are as follows:
- Pyramids – 43 points (18 matches)
- Al Ahly – 39 points (18 matches)
- Zamalek – 35 points (18 matches)
- Al Masry – 31 points (18 matches)
The decision solidifies Zamalek’s position in the race for the title while dealing a blow to Al Ahly’s championship aspirations.
The club must now refocus on the remaining matches as they aim to reclaim their standing in the Egyptian league.
