The Egyptian Football Federation has provided clarification regarding the registration status of Zamalek during the ongoing winter transfer window.
The source from the Football Federation stated, “Is Zamalek allowed to register players? Its status remains unchanged; the club is not permitted to register any deals.”
Furthermore, the source added, “We have not received any communications from FIFA indicating a change in their position.”
Earlier reports from FilGoal.com suggested that negotiations between Zamalek and Sporting Lisbon are currently underway to find a resolution to the registration crisis.
These talks are reportedly progressing well at the moment.
Sporting Lisbon claims approximately $1.5 million in dues from Zamalek, and preliminary agreements have been reached with Achimpong following communication between the parties to schedule the outstanding financial obligations.
The root of the crisis dates back to 2015 when Shikabala returned to Zamalek from Lisbon, and the club failed to settle the outstanding amount of $510,000.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the payment of this sum along with an annual interest rate of 10% from August 2015 until the actual settlement date.
In addition, the court imposed a fine of $400,000 on Zamalek, subject to a 5% annual interest rate from 2016 onwards.
Furthermore, a fine of $1.2 million was imposed in favor of Achimpong.
The club appealed against a decision by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Committee, and the International Court of Arbitration for Sport has scheduled October 7th for a hearing before reaching an amicable solution.
Zamalek needs to reach a settlement to be able to register players in the upcoming January window.
The negotiations with Sporting Lisbon and Achimpong are seen as critical steps in resolving this issue.
