The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced the start and end dates for the 2025/2026 football season.
The EFA has set the start of the league on August 15, with the season ending in May 2026.
This comes after the Football Association’s Board of Directors met with Premier League clubs, in the presence of the Egyptian Clubs Association, to discuss the vision for the new season.
At the meeting, the EFA revealed that teams competing in African interclub competitions will be granted a minimum of three days’ rest between domestic fixtures when playing at home, and four days when travelling for away matches.
Additionally, the preliminary rounds of both the Egypt Cup and the newly introduced Cairo Capital Cup will take place during international breaks, ensuring minimal disruption to the league calendar.
Next season, four Egyptian clubs will represent the nation in CAF competitions. Al-Ahly and Pyramids will compete in the CAF Champions League, while Zamalek and Al-Masry will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Al-Ahly, who clinched the league title last season for a record 44th time, will be aiming to continue their dominance on both domestic and continental fronts.
The 2025/26 season will also see a revamped league structure, featuring 21 clubs divided into two groups. According to Tharwat Sweilem, a member of the Egyptian Clubs Association, the competition will begin with a round-robin phase where all teams play each other.
The top seven clubs will then advance to a championship group to battle for the title, while the remaining teams will fight to avoid relegation.
