The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has approved the decision of the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association to cancel relegation for the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League season.
EFA’s management gave its approval during its last meeting with representatives from the league’s board of directors and participating clubs.
The move follows earlier appeals from several clubs requesting the suspension of relegation for the next campaign.
Responding to these calls, the league had previously announced plans to adjust its promotion and relegation framework starting from the 2024/25 season.
According to the revised structure, four teams will be relegated and three promoted from the second division in future seasons, a shift aimed at restoring competitive balance and addressing what the league has described as “exceptional circumstances.”
The current Egyptian Premier League season concluded recently, with Ghazl El Mahalla and Ismaily finishing at the bottom of the table.
Although the positions would normally see them relegated, they will remain in the top-flight and compete in the Egyptian Premier League next season.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian FA has announced that the 2025/26 football season will commence on August 15 and end in May 2026.
