Egyptian defender Rami Rabia has turned down a contract renewal offer from giants Al Ahly amid salary dispute.
The 31-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, making him eligible to leave on a free transfer.
Rami Rabia is at the center of intense contract negotiations after rejecting the club’s initial renewal offer.
Al Ahly reportedly offered Rabia a contract worth EGP 20 million year, but the player first sought EGP 35 million before lowering his demand to EGP 30 million in a display of flexibility.
However, the gap remains significant, and no agreement has been reached so far.
Rabia has almost spent his career at the Egyptian giants, having joined the club as youth team player in 2003.
He earned promotion to the senior squad in 2010 under Abdelaziz Abdelshafi. Since then, he has made 337 appearances, scored 18 goals, and provided 8 assists across all competitions.
Now in his final contractual months, Rabia is within the free negotiation period, meaning he can speak to other clubs and sign without consulting Al Ahly. The club risks losing one of its most experienced defenders unless an improved offer is made soon.
As negotiations continue, the coming weeks will be critical — not just for Rabia’s future, but for Al Ahly’s plans heading into a congested summer window.
