Egyptian clubs in African tournaments: Ahly advances, Zamalek makes history, and Pyramids bows out

The fifth round of matches in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup has concluded, leaving one more round before the end. Several teams have secured their spots in the quarter-finals, including Egypt’s Ahly and Zamalek.

In African tournaments, Egypt is represented by four clubs: Ahly and Pyramids in the CAF Champions League, and Zamalek and FC Futuro in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Ahly Secures Qualification

Ahly’s first team achieved a crucial victory over Ghana’s Medeama SC in the fifth round, winning 1-0 away from home, thus officially securing their spot in the next round.

In contrast, Pyramids FC bid farewell to the CAF Champions League before the final round, losing 3-0 to TP Mazembe of DR Congo last Saturday.

  • TP Mazembe (DR Congo) is in second place with 10 points.
  • Nouadhibou FC (Mauritania) is in third place with 4 points.
  • Pyramids FC is in fourth place with 4 points.

Zamalek Makes Historic Qualification

On the other hand, Zamalek’s first team succeeded in qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals before the final round, securing the top spot after defeating Libya’s Abu Salim SC 2-1 away from home.

  • Zamalek is in first place with 13 points, securing top spot.
  • Abu Salim SC (Libya) is in second place with 9 points, also securing advancement.
  • Sagrada Esperança (Angola) is in third place with 5 points.
  • SOAR Coyah FC (Guinea) is in fourth place with 1 point.

Zamalek is on the verge of a historic achievement if they win their next match against SOAR Coyah FC, which would raise their points to 16.

FC Modern Future Holds onto Hope for Qualification

In the same tournament, FC Modern Future clings to hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals after drawing with South Africa’s SuperSport United, ending in a 1-1 draw.

  • FC Modern Future is in second place with 8 points.
  • Al-Hilal (Libya) is in third place with 6 points.
