Officials from the Egyptian Olympic Committee have decided that the advance team for Egypt’s delegation to the African Games will travel to Accra, Ghana, next Tuesday, February 27th.
The purpose of the advance delegation’s trip to Accra for the 2024 African Games is to attend the delegation registration meeting, secure accommodation arrangements, and make all necessary preparations for the Egyptian delegation.
Following this, the players and technical staff will travel in subsequent waves.
The advance delegation of the Egyptian mission to the African Games includes Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Ghanem, the head of the delegation, along with Ahmed Rashid, the Director-General of Financial Affairs, Khaled Hassan, the Financial Affairs Director, Osama Sadek, the Director-General of Public Relations at the Olympic Committee, Ahmed Erfan, the Head of the Public Relations Department, Lamis Ghazi, the Director of Technical Affairs, Tarek Sleiman, the Head of the Technical Affairs Department, Ashraf Aabid, a Technical Affairs Specialist, Mohamed Salim, a Technical Affairs Specialist, Ahmed Abdel Aal, the Director of Administrative Affairs, and Dr. Amani Abdel Tawab, the team doctor.
The Egyptian delegation aims to achieve more medals and win the championship title, raising Egypt’s flag high.
The African Games are the largest sports gatherings in Africa, held every four years under the auspices of the African Union and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), as well as the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC).
Egypt is participating in the Accra 2023 African Games with a delegation consisting of 262 athletes, including 163 male athletes and 99 female athletes competing in 21 different sports, including arm wrestling, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, volleyball, boxing, chess, hockey, handball, judo, karate, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, weightlifting, wrestling, speedball, and e-sports.
Dr. Abdel Aziz Ghanem, the Treasurer of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and the President of the Egyptian Boxing Federation, leads the Egyptian delegation to the African Games.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt tops the overall medal tally of the African Games with a total of 1620 medals, including 639 gold, 500 silver, and 481 bronze medals in 12 sports.
Egypt holds the first position in the total number of medals in African Games history, having won the championship title 6 times, including the recent editions in Morocco 2019 and Brazzaville, Congo 2015, in addition to the inaugural edition under the name of the United Arab Republic in the first edition of the African Games held in Brazzaville, Congo, in 1965.
