Egypt to face Malawi in November Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

CAF has confirmed the dates for Egypt’s two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Malawi during the next international break.

Egypt will host Malawi at Cairo International Stadium in the third round of qualifying on Friday, 13 November. The return fixture will take place in Malawi on Tuesday, 17 November, in the fourth round.

The forthcoming international window will run from 9 November until 17 November.

Egypt began their qualifying campaign with a goalless draw against Angola in Cairo before recording a 5-0 victory away from home against South Sudan in their second match.

After two rounds, Egypt are top of the group with four points, level with Angola. Malawi are third on three points, while South Sudan are at the bottom without a point.

The standings also list Angola in third place with one point from one match, with South Sudan last without any points.

Egypt’s matches against Malawi will therefore provide their next opportunity to strengthen their position in the group, with both fixtures scheduled within the same international window.

The dates were announced after Egypt’s latest international break ended with a friendly defeat by South Africa at Cairo International Stadium.

That result was Hossam Hassan’s first defeat as Egypt manager at the stadium. It was also his sixth loss as manager of the national team, following defeats against Croatia, Uzbekistan, Senegal, Brazil, Argentina and South Africa.

Hassan has drawn 12 matches and won 20 since taking charge of Egypt.
