Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Premier League Player of the Season, marking the second time he has received the prestigious accolade.
The 32-year-old first won the award during the 2017-18 season.
Salah edged out competition from Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as Arsenal duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest.
This marks the first time since the 2018-19 season that a Manchester City player has not claimed the honor.
Heading into Liverpool’s final match of the season against Crystal Palace, Salah leads the league with 28 goals—five more than any other player—and 18 assists, just two shy of the Premier League record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Salah also made history this season by becoming the Premier League’s all-time leading overseas scorer, surpassing Sergio Aguero’s tally of 184 goals. Additionally, he committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.
Earlier this month, Salah was also named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for a record third time, earning more than 90% of the vote for his instrumental role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.
