Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has been named among the top contenders for the 2025 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award, following a stellar campaign with Liverpool.
The 33-year-old enjoyed a remarkable season, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists to inspire Liverpool to their second Premier League title.
His outstanding performances also earned him the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award, securing a record 90% of the vote—the highest margin of victory this century.
Salah is now strongly tipped to claim the PFA award for a third time, having previously won it in 2018 and 2022.
Joining Salah on the shortlist are his Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, Chelsea starlet Cole Palmer, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer’s inclusion sparked some debate, given Chelsea’s inconsistent season. However, his individual brilliance earned him the 2023-24 Young Player of the Year award.
Rice delivered a standout season for Arsenal, tallying nine goals and ten assists in 52 appearances.
He also played a pivotal role in the Gunners’ memorable Champions League triumph over Real Madrid.
Isak was instrumental for Newcastle United, netting 23 goals as the club qualified for the Champions League and lifted the League Cup—their first major trophy in 56 years.
Despite Manchester United’s underwhelming campaign, Fernandes emerged as a bright spot, registering eight goals and ten assists.
The winners will be announced at the PFA Awards gala in Manchester on August 19, 2025.
