Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has revealed he would have joined the Saudi Pro League had he not extended his contract with Liverpool.
The 32-year-old, who previously played for Chelsea, was heavily linked with a lucrative move to the Middle East.
Reports suggested that Salah was in line for a deal worth at least £500 million before he opted to sign a two-year extension with Liverpool, keeping him at Anfield until 2027.
Despite committing his immediate future to the Reds, Salah has not ruled out a potential move to Saudi Arabia once his contract ends.
“I still have a good relationship with them, and I always stay in contact with them. Yes, we were talking to each other,” he told ON Sports.
“I don’t know what is going to happen, but I am happy here in Liverpool and I am staying here for the next two years. Then I will see what I will do next,” he added.
Salah has netted 186 Premier League goals across spells with Liverpool and Chelsea, placing him fifth on the all-time scorers list—just one goal shy of former Newcastle and Manchester United striker Andy Cole.
