Pyramids FC of Egypt have made history by clinching their first-ever CAF Champions League title, overcoming South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate in Sunday’s final in Cairo.
Their thrilling 2-1 victory in the decisive leg earned them the prestigious continental crown and signalled a major milestone in their ambitious ascent.
Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was quick to celebrate the win, extending heartfelt congratulations to the team and Egyptian fans nationwide.
On his official Facebook page, President El-Sisi shared:
“I extend my sincere congratulations to the Pyramids team and the Egyptian sports fans on the occasion of achieving this historic achievement by winning the African Champions League for the first time in its history.
“This victory embodies the spirit of determination that has always characterized Egyptian sport and confirms the ability of our clubs to compete strongly in the continental and international arena. I wish continued success for Egyptian football in all forums.”
Pyramids now join a distinguished group of Egyptian clubs – Ismaily SC, Al Ahly SC, Zamalek SC, and Arab Contractors – who have captured Africa’s top club honour.
This latest win brings Egypt’s overall tally in the CAF Champions League to 19, reinforcing the country’s dominant legacy in African football.
The victory also secures Pyramids a spot in the CAF Super Cup against Morocco’s RS Berkane, and marks their historic qualification for both the Intercontinental Cup and the expanded 2029 Club World Cup.
They become only the second Egyptian team after Al Ahly to reach such global heights.
From newcomers to continental champions, Pyramids’ journey is now a symbol of ambition and perseverance – qualities immortalized in their newly earned golden star.
