Egypt national team doctor provides update on Salah’s season-ending injury
Mohamed Salah will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, according to an update from Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan.
The injury occurred during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, and it has now been confirmed that the Egyptian forward will be sidelined for several weeks.
The development raises the possibility that the 33-year-old has already played his final match for the club following the announcement of his departure last month.
Speaking to Reuters, Hassan stated, “He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment.”
Salah’s final campaign at Anfield comes to an abrupt end with 12 goals and 9 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. In the Premier League, he recorded 7 goals and 6 assists, playing a vital role in keeping Liverpool at the summit before his season was cut short.
Over the years, Salah has firmly established himself as one of Liverpool’s all-time greats, collecting a remarkable list of honours including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the FA Community Shield.
Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, the Egyptian star has made 435 appearances and scored more than 255 goals, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring chart.
Despite the setback, there is positive news on the international front. According to Reuters, Salah is expected to recover in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Egypt national football team will face Belgium national football team, New Zealand national football team, and Iran national football team in Group G. The forward is now focused on completing his recovery ahead of the tournament’s June 11 kickoff in North America.
Liverpool will wrap up their season with away fixtures against Manchester United on May 3 and Aston Villa on May 17, along with home matches against Chelsea on May 9 and Brentford on May 24.
