Egyptian national team head coach Hossam Hassan has unveiled his 25-man squad for the upcoming international break this month, as the Pharaohs prepare for the Winsunited Cup in the UAE.
Hassan, who is tasked with revitalizing Egypt’s fortunes following a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, has assembled a squad aimed at ushering in a new era for Egyptian football.
The tournament in the UAE will see Egypt facing off against Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
However, the absence of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah due to injury has stirred controversy.
Despite returning to training recently, Salah has been omitted from Hassan’s squad, leaving him to focus on his recovery at Liverpool following his last appearance for the Reds in a 4-1 victory against Brentford.
Similarly, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has also been left out of the squad for the upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, former Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Trezeguet and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush have secured their places in the squad.
The full squad includes:
– Goalkeepers: Mostafa Shobier, Mohamed Awad, Mohamed Abou-Gabal, and El-Mahdi Soliman.
– Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Akram Tawfik, Ramy Rabia, Mohamed Hamdi, Ahmed Ramadan Beckham, Mohamed Shokri, and Ahmed Hegazy.
– Midfielders: Marwan Ateya, Emam Ashour, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Ahmed Nabi Kouka, and Hamdy Fathi.
– Forwards: Mostafa Mohamed, Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Mostafa Fathi, Mohamed Sherif, Hussein El-Shahat, Ahmed Atef, and Mohamed El-Shami.
With a mix of experienced campaigners and promising talents, Hassan’s squad aims to make a strong impression in the upcoming tournament and lay the foundation for future success in Egyptian football.
