Legendary Egyptian goalkeeper, Essam El-Hadary says the Pharaohs’ must prepare the best possible way for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), citing that will be a tough tournament.
Egypt, who are record winners of the AFCON in search of the eighth trophy having won the last trophy in 2010.
In an interview with ON Sport, El-Hadary explained that hosting the tournament in Morocco will make it more difficult for the Pharaohs to win the title, “because the Moroccan team will fight to win the title” on home soil.
“The Egyptian team is the number one team in Africa and the most decorated, but it must prepare for the tournament in the best possible way.”
He pointed out that the Egyptian national team must be strongly supported by the fans and the media to return as a strong contender for the title.
He stressed the need to “disappear the tone of Al-Ahly and Zamalek and focus on supporting the national team.”
“I support my country’s national team and I will support Hossam Hassan, the technical director, but if there are mistakes, they must be clarified and discussed in the media.”
He stressed that Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, “will provide full support to the national team and we must provide high-level friendly matches against Morocco and Algeria.”
