Egypt has been officially granted the right to host the 2027 African Games, announced Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports. This significant development was disclosed during a meeting of African Ministers of Youth, Sports, and Culture on the sidelines of the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

Expressing his delight, Minister Sobhy highlighted the unwavering support from Egypt’s political leadership, led by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, towards sports and infrastructure development in the country.

He emphasized how this support has manifested in Egypt’s ability to host various international, continental, and global tournaments, showcasing Egypt’s strength and organizational capabilities.

Minister Sobhy noted that Egypt had previously hosted the African Games only once, in 1991. Therefore, the return of the Games to Egypt is a source of pride and honor for all Egyptians.

The African Games, held every four years under the supervision of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, are the largest sporting event in Africa.

The African Games feature 31 sports, including athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoeing, chess, cycling, diving, equestrianism, fencing, football, handball, hockey, judo, karate, netball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, gymnastics, triathlon, kayak boxing, squash, softball, mountain biking, and billiards.
