Egypt FA sets up committee to finalise new contract terms for coach Hossam Hassan

The Egyptian Football Association has created a three-man committee to draw up the terms of a new contract for Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan.

The move follows an earlier announcement from EFA president Hany Abu Rida that the federation’s board had already agreed in principle to extend Hassan’s deal as national team boss.

In a statement, the EFA confirmed that the committee will be led by vice-president Khaled El-Darandali, with board members Tarek Abou El-Enein and Hamada El-Sherbini also appointed.

The trio have been tasked with defining all clauses and conditions of the renewed contract for Hassan, known in Egypt as “El-Ameed” (The Colonel), before presenting their proposals to Abu Rida for approval.

Hassan’s record with Egypt

Hassan was appointed Egypt coach in February 2024 and took charge of his first match the following month against New Zealand.

Since his appointment, he has overseen 35 games with the national side, winning 19, drawing 10 and losing five.

Under his leadership, Egypt finished second in Group G with five points, behind Belgium on goal difference.

In the group stage, Egypt drew with Belgium and Iran and defeated New Zealand 3-1.

Tournament performance

Egypt then progressed to the round of 32, where they beat Australia on penalties.

Their run ended in the last 16 with defeat against defending champions Argentina.

The EFA statement did not specify any timeline for when the committee will complete its work, but its recommendations must be submitted to Abu Rida before any contract extension with Hassan is formally signed.
