Salah and Hossam Hassan backed for 2030 World Cup

Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the Egyptian Football Association, has expressed strong confidence in coach Hossam Hassan and Mohamed Salah remaining key figures for the Pharaohs at the 20230 World Cup.

The North African powerhouse are currently enjoying a historic campaign at the 2026 World Cup under Hossam Hassan, having secured qualification to the Round of 16, where they will face Argentina national football team on Tuesday.

Speaking on the “Stadium On” programme on On Sport TV, Abu Zahra revealed details of a meeting held between the Egyptian Football Association and the national team’s technical staff before the tournament.

“We held a meeting with Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan before the World Cup, and the duo did not ask for anything,” Abu Zahra said.

“They only said: ‘We are continuing.’ Hany Abu Rida, the president of the federation, responded, ‘Of course,’ saying: ‘We will stay together or leave together.’”

Abu Zahra went on to praise the stability within the national team setup and voiced optimism about the future of Egyptian football.

“God willing, Hossam Hassan will be the coach of the Egyptian national team at the 2030 World Cup,” he added.

“And Mohamed Salah will also be the captain of the Egyptian national team at the 2030 World Cup.”

Egypt booked their place in the Round of 16 after defeating Australia national soccer team 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in the Round of 32.

The Pharaohs opened their group-stage campaign with a 1-1 draw against Belgium national football team before claiming an impressive 3-1 victory over New Zealand national football team. They then concluded the group phase with another 1-1 draw against Iran national football team.
