The Egyptian football championship has been indefinitely postponed, as announced by the Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) on its official website. The decision is attributed to political reasons.
The newly appointed board of directors of the EFA emphasized that discussions between “the president of the federation” and “the Ministry of the Interior to obtain the necessary security authorizations for the opening of the championship, was unsuccessful.”
Originally scheduled to commence on October 17, the Egyptian national championship has faced obstacles due to opposition from various quarters. The new executive of the EFA, elected last Thursday, has encountered resistance from the Ministry of the Interior, club supporters, and families of the victims of the Port Said riot, which resulted in 73 casualties and numerous injuries.
