Egypt and Morocco have sent a clear, united message calling for an end to sports fanaticism and negative behavior among football fans.
In a joint move, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi and his Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Saad Brada, highlighted the deep, historic and brotherly ties that bind the two countries.
During a phone call, the two ministers stressed that relations between Egypt and Morocco stretch back decades of cooperation and mutual support, especially in the fields of youth and sports. They underlined that sporting rivalry must always remain within a civilized framework built on mutual respect, fair play and positive interaction between supporters.
The conversation came as part of broader coordination between Cairo and Rabat to calm tensions and maintain a healthy sporting atmosphere among fans. Both sides emphasized that sport should act as a bridge that brings peoples closer together, not a trigger for disputes or division, and that it represents a powerful form of soft diplomacy strengthening ties between friendly nations.
Sobhi also praised Morocco’s successful hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations, noting the organization and fan experience as a source of pride for the Arab world.
He firmly rejected any displays of intolerance, abuse or negative rhetoric that could damage the distinguished relationship between the two countries or distort the image of Arab supporters.
For his part, the Moroccan minister welcomed this direct communication and reaffirmed the value the Atlas Lions’ nation places on its strategic relationship with Egypt. He stressed Morocco’s commitment to backing every initiative that promotes Arab unity, spreads positive values among young people and encourages a sporting culture rooted in respect and shared pride.
