The Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) has announced that Al Masry will participate in the upcoming national championship, set to open on August 22. This comes after the club was suspended for a year following the Port Said disaster, a tragic incident in which 72 people lost their lives during a match against Al Ahly.
“Al Masry will play next season; they paid the tax to the Egyptian League, and CAS [Court of Arbitration for Sport] allowed them to play again,” stated EFA spokesperson Azmy Megahed to SuperSport.com. He further explained, “Next season will be played in two groups with 22 teams: 18 from last season, three promoted, and Al Masry.”
However, Al Masry faces a new challenge as its Port Said stadium remains suspended for three years. Club officials had requested to play in Ismaily, but the Egyptian authorities rejected the proposal. This situation adds complexity to Al Masry’s return to competitive football, with the club needing to navigate logistical challenges as it resumes regular participation in the league.
