Rising star Mostafa Shobeir has firmly denied any issues with fellow goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, following a surge in his prominence due to El Shenawy’s injury. Shobeir has capitalized on this opportunity, cementing his place as Al Ahly’s number one goalkeeper.

Shobeir played a pivotal role in Al Ahly’s triumph in the CAF Champions League final, securing a 1-0 victory in the return leg against Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

His performance was particularly notable as he became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet throughout an entire C1 campaign.

Speculation has emerged in Egyptian media about potential tensions between the two goalkeepers.

Reports suggested that El Shenawy, who had just recovered from injury, was keen to start in the final.

Addressing these rumors, Shobeir explained, “Marcel Koller informed me that I would start against Espérance de Tunis before the championship match against Baladia El Mahallah. He told me that he had already spoken with El Shenawy and wished me good luck.”

Shobeir emphasized the absence of any discord between him and El Shenawy. “There is no problem between me and El Shenawy.

It’s completely normal for him to feel sad about not playing in the final. I understand. But this does not affect our good relationship,” he stated.

Regarding his position in the national team hierarchy, Shobeir remains unfazed. “I don’t dwell too much on this point. It is up to the coach to decide who deserves to be a starter.

For my part, it is a pride to be called up, and all that is important for me is that Egypt wins the next two matches.

We will give everything to make the Egyptian people happy,” he concluded.

For the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Burkina Faso on June 6 and Guinea Bissau on June 10, Egypt’s coach Hossam Hassan has called up four goalkeepers: Mohamed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, Mohamed Awad, and Mahdi Soliman.

As Egypt prepares for these crucial matches, Shobeir’s focus remains on contributing to the team’s success and maintaining harmony within the squad.
