The 31st edition of the Burkina Faso Super Cup will be contested this Saturday, August 10, featuring Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou (EFO), the reigning national cup champions, against AS Douanes, the current league champions. Both teams are eager to secure the trophy as they gear up for the new season, with their coaches expressing confidence and determination ahead of the clash.
AS Douanes, having parted ways with 14 players at the end of the last season, are optimistic about their new recruits’ ability to integrate quickly and contribute effectively.
Assistant coach Antoine Ilboudo, representing head coach Kamou Malo, emphasized the team’s focused preparation and strong intent to retain the Super Cup.
“We are preparing with the greatest serenity and rigor possible. We are men of action, and we are going to win the Super Cup,” Ilboudo stated confidently.
The team’s determination to defend their title is palpable, and they are approaching the match with a winning mindset.
For EFO, the upcoming Super Cup match is an opportunity for redemption. In the previous Super Cup encounter, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to AS Douanes.
Head coach Cheick Ouattara and his squad are determined to overturn that result and start the new season on a high note.
“Our squad has not changed. It is practically the same players that we have kept.
We have lost only two key players, otherwise all the players are there. Of course, we have also recruited new players,” Ouattara explained.
With a largely unchanged squad, EFO is confident in their cohesion and readiness to challenge AS Douanes.
“As we often say, a final is not played, it is won. We are going to Bobo Dioulasso to win the Cup,” Ouattara asserted, highlighting the team’s commitment to securing victory in the Super Cup.
Beyond the immediate goal of winning the Super Cup, both teams are also looking ahead to their respective African campaigns.
AS Douanes will compete in the Champions League, while EFO will participate in the CAF Cup.
This Super Cup match serves as a crucial preparation for their continental challenges, allowing both teams to fine-tune their strategies and build momentum.
The anticipation for the Burkina Faso Super Cup is high, with both EFO and AS Douanes determined to claim the first silverware of the season.
AS Douanes are focused on retaining their title with a revamped squad, while EFO are driven by the desire for revenge and redemption.
As the two teams clash in Bobo Dioulasso, football fans can expect a fiercely contested match that sets the stage for an exciting season ahead in Burkinabe football.
