Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Assifuah has joined FC Sion, signing a 5-year contract with the Swiss team. The announcement was made by FC Sion on Thursday. Assifuah, who was also pursued by AS Saint-Etienne, comes to FC Sion after playing in Ghana’s top division for Liberty Professionals, a club that has seen notable players like Gyan Asamoah and Michael Essien.
The 20-year-old striker gained prominence as one of the heroes of the last U20 World Cup in Turkey, finishing as the top scorer with 6 goals and helping his team secure the bronze medal. Assifuah now joins an African contingent at FC Sion, including his compatriot Ismael Yartey, Pa Modou Jagne from Gambia, Xavier Kouassi from Ivory Coast, and Freddy Mveng from Cameroon.
Assifuah’s arrival coincides with the departure of Yannick Ndjeng, a Cameroonian player who recently returned to Esperance. The young Ghanaian striker will look to make a positive impact for FC Sion in the upcoming seasons.
