Dutch-Togolese forward Cody Gakpo among PSV’s biggest ever transfers

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven may not have matched the same volume of talent production as rivals AFC Ajax in recent years, but the club has still developed a number of high-quality players who later secured big money moves abroad.

Over the years, PSV have frequently been forced to part ways with their top performers as wealthier European clubs swooped in with lucrative offers. These departures have produced several significant transfer deals that rank among the biggest sales in the club’s history.

One of the most recent names to join that list is Noa Lang, who completed a €25 million move to SSC Napoli in the summer of 2025.

Legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy also features prominently among PSV’s major outgoing transfers. After scoring 77 goals in 90 matches for the Dutch side, he secured a €28.5 million transfer to Manchester United FC in 2001. The Dutch forward went on to enjoy a prolific spell in England, netting 150 goals in 219 appearances before later joining Real Madrid CF in 2006.

Another notable departure came in 2020 when Steven Bergwijn left PSV to join Tottenham Hotspur FC for €30 million. Bergwijn progressed through the PSV academy after arriving at the club at the age of 13 and went on to make 149 appearances for the first team before his move to England.

Forward Donyell Malen also made the list after his €30 million transfer to Borussia Dortmund in 2021. The Dutch international scored 55 goals in 116 games for PSV after joining from the Arsenal FC academy.

Dutch star Memphis Depay was another high-profile export. The winger completed a €34 million switch to Manchester United in 2015 following an outstanding period in Eindhoven, where he emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

Midfielder Malik Tillman became PSV’s fifth biggest sale when he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for €35 million in 2025. The Bundesliga side turned to the American international after selling Florian Wirtz to Liverpool FC. Tillman impressed during his time at PSV, registering 44 goal involvements in 73 matches.

Defensive midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré also secured a €35 million transfer when he joined Nottingham Forest FC in 2023 after three successful seasons with PSV.

English winger Noni Madueke followed a similar path when he completed a €35 million move to Chelsea FC in January 2023 after establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie’s most promising wide players.

Among the club’s biggest sales is Dutch international Cody Gakpo, who joined Liverpool for €42 million in 2023 following his standout performances for the Netherlands national football team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The forward left his boyhood club after scoring 55 goals in 159 appearances while helping PSV secure four major trophies.

PSV’s most expensive sale to date remains Mexican winger Hirving Lozano, who moved to Napoli in 2019 for €50 million. Lozano earned the transfer after recording 56 goal contributions in just 59 Eredivisie matches for the Dutch side. During his four years in Italy, he played a role in Napoli’s historic Serie A triumph before eventually returning to PSV in 2023.
