Dutch international of Togolese descent Cody Gakpo is preparing to return to his hometown to compete against PSV Eindhoven, the club where he began his football journey at the age of six.

Gakpo enjoyed a successful tenure with PSV, netting 55 goals in 159 appearances for the senior team before departing in January 2023.

Reflecting on the upcoming match, Gakpo shared his mixed emotions, stating, “It’s a beautiful moment, a special moment for me, of course. I’m looking forward to being on the pitch tomorrow.”

He acknowledged the unique circumstances of the encounter, noting, “It will be pretty strange. I think I’ve never been in the away dressing room, so it will be the first time and on the other side of the walkout. It’s different from what I was used to.”

Despite the nostalgia, Gakpo is confident that once the match begins, any personal sentiments will fade, allowing the focus to shift to the game itself.

He added, “With the team we have, we are here and we are going for the win. Hopefully, it will be a good game.”
