Joshua Zirkzee has hailed the team spirit and “hunger” inside Man Utd squad, insisting the arrival of new signings has raised the competitive edge within the dressing room.
The striker praised the balance between youth and experience at Old Trafford, describing a group determined to respond positively to setbacks.
Born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian mother and Dutch father, Zirkzee carries dual heritage that has shaped his football journey from youth level to the Premier League stage.
Now at Manchester United, he believes the current atmosphere is one of unity and ambition, qualities he says will be vital over the course of the season.
Despite United’s weekend defeat to Arsenal, Zirkzee stressed the mood within the squad remains strong. “Yeah, it is a special vibe. I mean, every individual contributes to that.
“For example, the new guys, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to feel at home in this environment,” he told manutd.com.
The summer additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both versatile attacking options, have been central to that spirit, according to Zirkzee.
“But if you see the way that they come in, and also what they add to our environment, it just works together very well. It’s just our job that we stay this close together and also when we have a setback.”
The Dutch forward also highlighted the balance of personalities in the dressing room, praising the blend of senior professionals and younger players.
“We have some great guys, experienced guys, young guys,” he explained, adding that both groups share the same drive to improve.
Above all, Zirkzee underlined the hunger that manager Ruben Amorim has instilled within the squad.
“There’s a hunger in this team. There’s even a bigger hunger I think from our manager, from our coach. So it’s up to us to just keep improving and also enjoying what we’re doing.”
