Dutch-Nigerian forward Joshua Zirkzee’s January move on hold as Man United delay decision

Manchester United have put any immediate decision on Joshua Zirkzee’s future on hold, effectively placing a potential January transfer on ice as the club reassess their options.

Despite growing interest from elsewhere and the player’s own desire for more consistent minutes, United are not prepared to sanction an early exit and intend to review the situation closer to the end of the transfer window.

Zirkzee, who has Nigerian heritage, has grown frustrated with his limited involvement under head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 24-year-old striker is eager to play regularly as he targets a place in the Netherlands squad for next year’s World Cup, but opportunities at Old Trafford have been scarce, prompting him to explore alternative options during the winter window.

Reports suggest United’s stance is driven by caution rather than indifference. According to ESPN, the club plan to wait until the latter stages of January before making a definitive call on whether Zirkzee will be allowed to leave.

Internally, there is a recognition that circumstances could shift depending on injuries, form, or tactical requirements, making an early decision undesirable from United’s perspective.

Interest in Zirkzee is beginning to gather pace. Roma are understood to be actively pushing for a deal, viewing the forward as a potential solution to their attacking needs.

West Ham United, meanwhile, have also registered interest as they search for reinforcements amid concerns over a possible relegation battle.
