The 2013 Golden Foot prize is set to be awarded this Wednesday in Monte Carlo, Monaco, honoring active players over the age of 29 contributing significantly to football’s development.
Among the 10 star footballers vying for the award are two Africans: Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o. The Ivorian and Cameroonian face stiff competition from other renowned players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, David Beckham, Miroslav Klose, Frank Lampard, Iker Casillas, and Andrea Pirlo.
The winner of today’s prize will follow in the footsteps of last year’s recipient, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Golden Foot award acknowledges the continued impact and excellence of players in the later stages of their careers.
